Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy poet,” described the intelligence game as “The Desert of Mirrors,” a phrase borrowed from a T.S. Eliot poem called Gerontion (the title means “little old man” in Greek, and the poem is an interior monologue of an older man’s opinions and impressions describing Europe after World War I through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century).

In the world of intelligence, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish reality from its reflection, an illusion, so to speak, as if one were in a “hall of mirrors.” During the Martian dialogue in the discussion with Dr. government agencies, including the intelligence community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation of the acronym “OBE” is “Overtaken by Events.” The opening credits show characters and scenes from the series interspersed with mirrors. I have to say that I was lucky enough to watch The Bureau a few years ago and honestly, it is probably one of the best things I have ever seen. There is a correlation between the two shows, of course it has been said that it was “influenced” by them, but I honestly did not expect a similar plot.

You won’t regret it

Don’t get me wrong, the series is great so far, great cast, good cinematography, but it is not something I have not seen before in the French version. It is too early to say how it will end, but I highly recommend anyone who hasn’t seen The Office to check it out. After Fassbender played a professional hitman in David Fincher’s The Killer and I saw that he was in the cast, I knew right away that he was a great choice for the role. This type of series requires a certain concentration while watching, so that you can keep up with all the characters in the plot and the little details that concern them.

This is not something you would watch while riding a bike on a trainer

Some would even find them slow, maybe even boring, but it is these qualities and the complicated personal struggles of the characters, as well as the slow build-up of tension, that make them great, in my opinion. You either love this type of series or you don’t like them at all, there is no middle ground.
